Art Director

Establish Clear Guidelines for all Brands:

He/she will partner closely and report into the Creative Director in establishing clear guidelines for Scentbird and all of the four private owned brands: Deck of Scarlet, Confessions of a Rebel, GoodHabit and Sanctuary. Art Director is responsible for direction and execution of photography, videography and other creative medium. He/she will be responsible for concepting and executing creative content for 360 campaigns, from collaborative ideation, to design development and presentation of creative strategy, through to final execution for application across all digital touchpoints and print. Be comfortable and confident leading and managing junior creatives; and proactively manage time and deadlines. Simplify and standardize the way we create art. He/she must be hands-on, agile, strategic yet detail-oriented, driven, and be a team player.

Ensure Creative is Produced on Time, to the Highest Standard and Provides a Consistent Brand Message Across all Channels:

  • On-set photo shoot experience
  • E-commerce design (tablet, mobile, etc.)
  • Digital marketing design (email blasts & banners) – translate creative into a
  • digital environment that ensures a cohesive brand story for each fragrance
    and brand.
  • Editorial & Social design, Digital assets (model & still life product shots, videos)
  • Print marketing design (advertising, invitations, store signs, tester units, and
    additional print collateral)
  • Internal communications (emails, internal branding requests)
  • Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Collaborating with styling teams on photo sets, as well as in pre-pro and post
    production.
  • Select, edit, crop and submit all item level photos
  • Work with manager on development of shoot strategy boards for
    presentation
  • Interaction with and partnering with all in-house agency departments as
    well as with the in-house digital agency and our licensee partners and
    their external agencies.
  • Partner with concept design teams to ensure a clear brand message
  • Oversee and lead all retouching and final colour corrections with in-house
    and outside partners to maintain brand standards and consistency.
  • Oversee quality control for all collateral

Partner with Creative Director to:

  • Create a compelling seasonal campaigns from inspiration to delivery
  • Generate new concepts that will drive the business and evolve our messaging
  • Stay ahead of trends, evolve our core assets and ensure a cohesive seasonal message
  • Participate in new idea sessions and the possible development and execution of those ideas (ie. shopping experiences, new sites, marketing campaigns, etc.)
  • Create design and execution of advertising needs with or without agencies.
  • Create new franchise videos (styling & brand stories)

Provide Art Leadership:

Create and maintain the vision for the brand with leaders across the organization:

  • Ensure brand alignment with Marketing, PR, Ecommerce, Merchandising, & Design
  • Work cross-functionally and collaboratively to define objectives, timelines, & budgets for large scale projects
  • Partner with external agencies
  • Forge strong working relationships with all members of creative team (stylists, photographers, producers) and our cross-functional partners (Marketing, e-commerce, PR, merchandising, Design, Talent)
  • Help lead, manage, and mentor junior creatives

Qualifications & Competencies:

  • BFA/BA degree from four-year college or university (preferably in Graphic Design, Digital Design, Advertising or a related field)
  • Min 5-8 years related experience, preferably in the agency / beauty / fashion / photo industry, with 2-3 years of that experience at an Art Director level
  • Must have ability to manage a team, lead, and mentor: highly organized, passionate, strategic-thinker, collaborative, energetic, positive, self-starter, strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be hands-on and able to equally delegate and/or execute projects independently
  • Willingness and ability to be reactive, flexible, and resourceful under tight deadlines
  • Encyclopedic understanding of digital and social media platforms and products
  • Strong understanding of branding, marketing, advertising, packaging
  • Strategic, big-picture thinker with ability to produce highly conceptual work
  • Strong sense of visual style — photography, design, typography, graphics, etc — with an understanding and appreciation of luxury / prestige
  • Must have photography, beauty, design experience; fashion is a plus but not a must.
  • Must have strong understanding of photo process and hands-on experience in asset creation from concept through to final retouching
  • Strong knowledge of animation a plus
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Anticipate needs to quickly identify solutions
  • Provide overall direction, manage workflow of photography team and oversee the development of the project
  • Develop and maintain a design/photography benchmark
  • Software: Adobe Creative Suite: Indesign, Photoshop, Illustrator are musts.
